During the first stage of the campaign "If you take care of the Planet, you fight against poverty", Connect yourself for Justice decided to get involved in a project of the Pastoral de la Tierra of the Vicariate of Yurimaguas, in which Caritas participates, to work in defence of human rights with the communities affected by the oil spills due to the rupture of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP).

This pipeline is the longest in Peru, with 1,106 km. In 2016, it suffered 13 spills that affected the Moroña, Marañón and Nucuray rivers and the populations of their basins.

In the jurisdiction of the Apostolic Vicariate of Yurimaguas, 5 of the spills occurred, 28 communities and 5,600 people were directly affected.
